Burns Trip Oct 29-31, 2010
The Sagebrush Symphony Orchestra Centennial Celebration invited the Portland Youth Philharmonic to perform in Concert October 30, 2010 in Burns, Oregon, 7:00 p.m. at the Burns High School Gym.
The Harney County Arts in Education Foundation hosted the Centennial Celebration for 2010. The reason for the celebration was to help restore the social impact of music education in Harney County. This celebration gave Harney County residents the opportunity to display their rich heritage to the orchestra’s members. The celebration included:
- Reconstruction of the historical violin float for the annual HC Fair Parade
- Photographic retrospective of the Sagebrush Symphony
- Historical book – 100 years of Music in Harney County 1910 – 2010
- Host the Portland Youth Philharmonic in Concert – Tribute to Mary Dodge and the Sagebrush Symphony
- Launch the planning council for a much needed regional Performing Arts Center in Harney County.
PYP Orchestra Members were treated to:
- Official welcome from local & state dignitaries
- Sagebrush Barbeque w/ Old Time Fiddlers & Sage Rats
- Paiute Nation Dance and Native crafts
- Black Powder Shoot
- Basque Lunch with Basque Music & Dance
- Bull Riding and Bronc Riding with local Buckaroos/Cowboys
- Photograph with historic violin float
- Performance on professional stage built for Oregon Symphony
Back in Burns, 100 years ago, they built this float for the Mary Dodge’s Sagebrush Orchestra. The people of Burns lovingly rebuilt a new one in its likeness as part of the Centennial Celebration.
