Free Double Bass Class

Open invitation to all interested students:
Free Double Bass Class
Presented by America’s First Youth Orchestra

Do you have students who might be interested in learning to play the double bass? Or do they already play but you think they are ready for lessons?

The Portland Youth Philharmonic is offering a free double bass class that will be taught by bass players from the Oregon Symphony. This is an opportunity to work with professional musicians. This class is open not only to members of the PYP organization but also those considering joining one of our groups if their playing becomes proficient enough. No experience is necessary to start. We are willing to give this opportunity to students to see if the bass is something they would like to play. And participation in our ensembles is not required if they decide the bass is not the instrument for them.

What students will need:

If simply finding a bass is a question, we have a few options. PYP owns a few basses that can be loaned under certain circumstances. There are also some bass shops in the area. The list of shops, below, are a good place for students to go to find out what size of bass would be best for them, even if students might think they are too young or small to begin on bass. And renting is certainly something to consider during this experimental stage.
