Q: What if my child is too young to enjoy a whole concert?
A: Many of our patrons (and even parents of some of the young people who have since become members of the orchestra) started out by planning to call it a night after intermission should the child accompanying them become too tired to enjoy a full concert. Music should not be a chore, neither should it be kept from children until a magic age. There is no perfect age, every child is different. If you must have at least some idea of a number, then a guideline is age 11 – but again, it depends on the child. There are also benches outside the seating area where you and your child can still hear the music, but don't have to worry about getting out some of those fidgets.
Q: What is the history of the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall?
A: The beautifully restored Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, opened in 1984, was originally the Portland Public Theatre, built in 1928.
